About St. Elizabeth
St. Elizabeth is the mother of John the Baptist, the prophet who foretold the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The acrylic pour is an intricate dance of light blue, copper, purple, and silver—the colors of baptismal water.
The painting is a portrait of Elizabeth’s head, one of the symbols of John the Baptist who was beheaded. Thick solid swatches of black, and red paint depict the humble sorrow of Elizabeth as she looks out of the painting with knowing eyes filled with great faith, humility, love, and sadness. Blood red paint shrouds Elizabeth in the bloody martyrdom of her son—the same red paint mixture used to paint the face of Jesus in The Sixth Station.
